Task Force approves dune-mitigation plan for 8206 Breakers Boulevard permit

The Shoreline Task Force approved a beach-and-dune permit application to construct a single-family residence at 8206 Breakers Boulevard in the Shores subdivision.

City staff member Christina presented the application and the attached General Land Office comment letter. Staff said the applicant's mitigation plan would move roughly 460 cubic yards of sand cut on the lot to re-elevate vegetated dune areas on the same property, and would provide vegetation mitigation seaward of the line of vegetation at a 1:1 ratio.

Staff explained the permit is required because the site is seaward of the city's dune-protection line; Christina said the dune protection line is tied to the east right-of-way of Padre Boulevard. Task force members asked for a map and staff pointed to the lot near the southern cul-de-sac on Breakers Boulevard.

Shoreline Task Force member Todd made a motion to approve the permit; Abby seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.

Staff noted that smaller inland lots without dunes receive a simplified permit process; this application required the full mitigation plan because it involved dune impacts.

The task force approved the permit application and staff will track mitigation and planting work in permit compliance.
