A lot-split application for a parcel identified as 5903 was treated as withdrawn after the applicant failed to appear at a Warr Acres meeting, and a nearby resident urged officials to resist subdividing long-held lots into narrow infill houses.
A city staff member said the municipality staff said, "for the city code, if a applicant for something like this does not appear for the public hearing, their application's deemed withdrawn." The staff member added that the applicant might reapply and that, if so, a new public hearing would be scheduled.
Pat Patterson Bradford, who identified herself as a resident at 5902 Northwest 50 Second Street and said her family has owned the property for more than 70 years, told meeting attendees she had observed previous homes on neighboring lots and urged caution about allowing splits that would produce "these narrow houses like they're building over off of Western and 40 Second Street." Bradford said the home on the lot originally burned and was replaced by another residence "for the people for the disabled" and argued that the property should not be parceled into two narrow lots.
Meeting attendees were told that because the applicant was not present, the lack of appearance triggers the city code provision cited by staff and no formal motion to approve the lot split was made. The staff member told residents, "if they do reapply, there'll be a new public hearing on their application."
Separately, meeting attendees moved to approve the minutes of Feb. 11, 2025. A motion to approve was made and seconded; one recorded affirmative response on the record was from a participant identified as Davis. Other roll-call votes were not specified on the record.
The meeting also included brief, non-substantive remarks referencing Vicky Douglas becoming mayor; those ceremonial comments did not affect the lot-split matter and no formal action on that subject was recorded.
