DeSoto says comprehensive plan adoption complete; implementation phase begins

Interim Development Services Director Jackie Colton told attendees April 10 that the city’s comprehensive plan has been completed and the city is moving into implementation of the document’s recommendations.

Colton said the plan is a 10‑chapter document that was developed with community and council input and that staff are now preparing the next steps to translate plan policies into action, including housing guidance, future‑land‑use categories and economic development recommendations.

“We’re done with the plan, and we’re now in the implementation phases,” Colton said. She invited residents and stakeholders to watch for additional briefings as staff bring forward zoning, code and program changes to implement the plan’s recommendations.

Why it matters: A comprehensive plan guides long‑term land use and development decisions; actions that follow — for example, zoning text amendments or new guidelines — typically require additional review and formal council action before becoming effective.
