Commission votes to forward letter supporting BLM rule rescission

The Mohave County Public Lands and Recreation Commission on Oct. 2 voted to forward to the Board of Supervisors a recommended comment letter supporting the Bureau of Land Management’s proposed rescission of the agency’s conservation and landscape health rule.

Randy Grimlich of Development Services told the commission the BLM is “proposing to rescind a rule that's been in place, approximately a year and a half called the conservation and landscape health rule,” and the meeting packet included a draft letter asking the Board of Supervisors to sign in support of the rescission.

Chairman Langenfelder expressed strong support for the rescission and characterized the rule as federal overreach. “They tried to elevate conservation onto the same level as every other productive use, and that's just wrong,” he said. The chairman said he expected the board would support forwarding the letter and noted the commission must vote to send the recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.

A motion was made to forward the recommended letter so the Board could sign it in support. The motion was seconded, commissioners voiced “aye,” and the chair declared the motion ordered.
