Mendon city .gov migration delayed; library site ready but activation stalled

Amy, the Mendon City Council liaison to the library board, told trustees Oct. 24 that the city is required by the state to move municipal websites from .org to .gov and that the city’s tech staff have not completed activation of the library’s new site.
“The state requires the city to now go from a .org … to a .gov,” Amy said. She told the board the library’s new website has been ready since about June but that the city’s technology contractor—referred to in the meeting as Altec—has not activated it. Amy said the delay “is shaping up to be a disaster” because the state’s deadline is December.
Amy said the city is exploring options, including switching vendors if activation does not proceed. The board asked whether they could choose a different vendor; trustees were told that would be possible but that city staff first will attempt to get Altec to finish the migration.
No formal action was taken by the library board; the item was presented as city council business to inform library trustees about the timeline and the potential need for follow‑up with city staff.
