Board approves adding Smith Taylor Trail to county roadway database

The Person County Board of Commissioners on April 7 approved adding Smith Taylor Trail to the county’s database of roadway names to support E-911 dispatching.
Sally Vaughn, who presented the road-naming request, said the road does not appear on a subdivision plat and serves two existing homes plus two new proposed homes across a private driveway that crosses an undeveloped parcel, for a total of five parcels. Vaughn said the county sent certified and noncertified mail to owners of all five parcels; two owners responded and both favored the name Smith Taylor Trail.
There were no speakers registered in favor or opposed during the public hearing. The board voted to open the hearing, close it and then approve the recommended roadway name; the clerk recorded the motions and that the “ayes have it.” No recorded roll-call of individual commissioners was included in the transcript.
The ordinance approving the name was written to reflect the unanimous choice of the two respondents, Vaughn said. Approval will add the name to the county’s addressing database for emergency dispatching.
