Rogers County awards $61,552.16 electrical contract for sheriff's firearms range

Rogers County commissioners voted to award a contract to Excess Energy for electrical and lighting work at the Rogers County Sheriff's Office firearms range, approving a total amount of $61,552.16 to be paid from USTAC funds.
County staff recommended the bid after the Sheriff's Office reviewed proposals from two vendors; the Sheriff's Office described Excess Energy as the lowest bidder and presented the $61,552.16 figure to the board. Commissioner votes were recorded as aye and the motion carried.
The award advances construction that county staff said has already produced some use of the range by outside agencies, but commissioners and staff cautioned that several costs remain. Staff recalled an earlier project budget figure of $300,000 and said unanticipated dirt-work costs of about $80,000 increased overall expenses. The Sheriff's Office representative said the awarded electrical work will allow the concrete contractor to proceed; however, a separate turning/target system bid remains outstanding and has been subject to price changes tied to steel tariffs.
Sheriff's Office staff said the range has been used intermittently by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Cherokee Nation and the sheriff's office but has been closed at times pending completion. The sheriff's representative said scheduling for outside agencies will be managed by the range master once the work is finished.
The board recorded the motion as "Motion to approve" with a second noted; Commissioner De Losier and Commissioner Hendricks voted aye and the motion carried.
Funding and remaining items: staff said the awarded amount will come from previously identified USTAC funds and that a remaining contract for the target system remains to be resolved and paid separately. Commissioners noted increased costs across projects and cited steel tariffs and other market pressures as drivers of higher prices.
