Trainer reports 50% construction documents; broadcast studio designs progressing

Project contractor Trainer provided a status update on construction documents for Capitol renovations and the broadcast studio. He said design teams are preparing the 50% construction-document (CD) package that will include specifications and drawings covering architecture, mechanical systems, acoustics and other disciplines, followed by a cost estimate from CCS.

Trainer said the team is tracking a schedule in which the 50% package is due to Brandon on March 21, with review comments expected later that week. He proposed presenting the 50% documents to the subcommittee at its April meeting. The design work is divided into three sections for tracking and budgeting: major maintenance (HVAC and architectural revisions), the broadcast studio and sound-absorption measures.

Specific elements in the current 50% documents include HVAC upgrades and associated architectural revisions (fan-coil units, staff break room, shared conference and IT work rooms), the broadcast-studio layout (informed by meetings with the governor’s office and PBS) and acoustic treatments for chambers such as drapery and ceiling-surface options. Trainer said some acoustic choices and glass/handrail replacements are being shown as alternates so the subcommittee may accept them as alternates or select one option at 50%.

The trainer noted that final paint and decorative handrail decisions are being refined with staff and will be included in the 50% set. Subcommittee members said they had previewed renderings for the broadcast studio and expressed support for reviewing a fuller package at the April meeting.
