Board approves countywide emergency response standard operating guidelines

Chief (Amherst Fire Department) presented revised countywide emergency services standard operating guidelines (SOG) to the Amherst County Board of Supervisors and said the document had been updated following feedback from a prior board meeting.
A supervisor stated for the record that as chief of an Amherst volunteer fire department he could vote on the guidelines because they apply countywide and do not solely affect his department. The board discussed wording clarifications made since the earlier draft and thanked staff for revisions.
Supervisor Martin moved to approve the presented standard operating guidelines for fire response in Amherst County. The board voted in favor by voice vote and the motion passed. County staff said the guidelines will be entered into the county’s CAD dispatch system and staff hope for a rollout date of May 1.
No amendments were recorded during the motion and no separate direction to staff was made beyond CAD entry and implementation planning.
