Plainview announces AMI water meter replacement program beginning January 2024

The City of Plainview posted notice that contractors will begin installing advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) water meters in January 2024. The city said the project will update water infrastructure and provide customers with more detailed consumption data.

City staff identified the contractors as Ameresco and Pedal Valve Incorporated. Installations will generally occur Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with some Saturdays if needed. Contractors will wear identifying uniforms and vehicles. Installers will not enter residences; they will knock and, if a resident answers, explain the process and ask that water not be used for about 30 minutes during installation.

If there is no response, crews will check whether water is active at the home; if water is in use, crews will move on and return later. Installation requires shutting off water, removing the old meter box and meter, and replacing it with the new AMI meter. If an accessible outdoor faucet is available, crews will flush the lines; otherwise, they will leave door-hanger instructions for residents on how to flush indoor lines.
