Comal County public health reports CPR, first-aid training and emergency preparedness drill

Comal County public health staff reported ongoing employee training at the Goodwin Annex (CPR, first aid, AED, Narcan and stop-the-bleed) and said the county practiced a drive-through Point of Dispensing (POD) setup for public health emergency preparedness.
Comal County public health staff told the Commissioners Court the department is holding employee training at the Goodwin Annex on the third Wednesday of each month. The training includes American Heart Association CPR, basic life support, AED use, stop-the-bleed and Narcan training. Staff said the training is open to all county employees and that certification requires a one-day class once every two years.
Public health staff also reported a public health emergency preparedness exercise: the department set up a drive-through Point of Dispensing (POD) to practice distribution logistics, describing a successful exercise the previous day. Staff said public health will close to the public on Friday to run another POD at a different location.
The report was presented by Cheryl Frazier of the Comal County Public Health Department; commissioners did not take action on the briefing but were encouraged to refer new staff to the training.
