PHARR, Texas — Yuri Gonzalez, director of the City of Pharr Office of City Communications, told the Keep Pharr Beautiful advisory board on March 18 that the city launched a Keep Pharr Beautiful Facebook page in January and is using multiple channels — social media, the city newsletter and a city podcast — to promote environmental and beautification work.
Gonzalez said the page is gradually gaining followers and asked department directors and community partners to share posts to increase reach. He highlighted a multi-site standpipe painting project — the department is documenting each painted standpipe and plans a compiled video recap — and invited board members and youth partners to participate in podcast episodes and local features.
Gonzalez described the media office’s internal process: departments submit requests through a media-request portal at least 48 hours in advance and can request graphics, photography, video or event promotion. He said requests that include a note asking to create a Facebook event help the office publish event pages quickly and consistently across city channels.
Ending: The communications director asked partners to coordinate media requests early for events such as upcoming tree plantings and reforestation promotions, and said the department will provide a social media schedule and support for future Keep Pharr Beautiful initiatives.
