Curry County declares local emergency after weekend storm

The Curry County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution declaring a local emergency on March 18 after a weekend storm caused road failures, flooding and property damage across central and northern parts of the county.
County officials and road crews reported multiple significant sites of damage, including plugged culverts and washed road sections. Road closures and severe washouts were reported on Flores Creek Road and Sixes River Road at roughly the 7- to 9-mile markers; one washout on Flores Creek Road was described in the meeting as having a roughly 50-foot drop. Commissioners said the county has asked the governor to consider this an emergency event and encouraged affected residents to document damage and contact the county emergency manager.
Emergency manager Jeff Hughes was identified in the meeting as the county contact; commissioners said a press release describing how to document damage and where to seek help had been posted on the county's website and social media. The board voted 3-0 to declare the local emergency.
Commissioners warned that additional weather was possible and asked residents to remain cautious while recovery continues.
