BEAD application window opens; county, ISPs and Comcast preparing phase‑2 bids for Madison County pockets

Local officials said the county’s ARPA‑funded first broadband phase will add service to roughly 3,700 premises in the northeast, and that a separate BEAD award would primarily cover west and other pockets of north Madison County still lacking reliable service. Comcast had requested letters of support and was working on GIS and address data for an application, county staff said.
Speakers urged officials and commissioners to stay engaged with ISPs during the application window to maximize chances of covering remaining gaps in county broadband access. No board vote was required; staff said they would continue to monitor and coordinate with ISPs and the state broadband office.
