Scott County Board approves testing coordinator post, budget amendments and multiple contracts

The Scott County Board of Education on March 13 voted to create a new testing coordinator position for grades 9 through 12 and approved a package of budget and contract actions including an e-rate consulting contract, facility repair work at Scott High School and transfer of mobile classrooms from Birchfield Elementary School.

The board approved the position described in the meeting as a “secretary specialist testing coordinator for grades 9 through 12.” Board members were told half the salary will be paid from Title II federal funds and the other half from the district’s college-and-career-readiness (CCR) outcomes funding.

Mister Owens, a district staff member, explained the outcomes funding trend to the board, saying the district’s CCR-related funding rose from about 22% when the program began three years ago to about 37% in an intervening year and to about 55% at the high school last year. “That normally gets us about $26,000,” he said. The board asked whether the additional salary was covered by those funds; the district’s response was that the CCR/outcomes funding and Title II would cover the position’s cost.
