Clovis CED reports progress on industrial park leads, incubator grant and Clovis Sound Studio construction

Clovis Economic Development (CED) staff provided updates on a range of development projects, saying two long-term industrial park projects remain active, retail activity at the mall is moving forward and the Clovis Sound Studio construction has begun.
Tina Lee, a CED staff member who delivered project updates, said the two long-term industrial park prospects — a green-energy company and a conduit manufacturer — "appear to still be moving forward." She said she had a meeting scheduled with the renewable energy prospect that day.
At the mall, Tina reported that Ross has started construction and is expected to open in mid-July. She said she had not yet received an application for a local incentive (LIT A) from Ross; if Ross applies directly rather than through mall ownership, the application would be processed differently. Tina also reported Ulta and Marshalls are open and "doing great" with strong sales.
On the business incubator, Tina said CED is meeting weekly with Martin Brady of San Juan Community College and received another $10,000 grant to support incubator development. She and a colleague planned a meeting with a consultant to decide whether to outsource the program or run it in-house. She said the city contracted Resimplify to review real-estate listings and update the ZoomProspector database for commercial properties.
Construction on Clovis Sound Studio has begun, equipment has been ordered and staff hope to complete the project within the next couple of months, Tina said, while noting delays related to a few long-lead items.
CED is also coordinating regional events that could bring visitors to Clovis: staff hosted a legislative breakfast with the Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce and Eastern Plains Council of Governments, and staff noted regional air championship races planned in September that will use neighboring airports for overflow. Tina gave a preview of the Clovis Music Festival lineup planned for April, listing opening acts and headliners.
Other items: CED has taken responsibility for a nonprofit focused on housing and is reviewing bylaws to determine how the nonprofit might be used to serve Clovis. A feasibility study for a commercial community kitchen will be funded by Arrowhead Center and coordinated with Clovis Community College (CCC). CED also hosted a virtual meeting with immigration attorney Michael Hendricks of Albuquerque to help local businesses address immigration questions.
Why it matters: the updates show multiple active business recruitment and retention efforts and a mix of project-stage activity from construction to program planning. Several items — the incubator, sound studio and potential hotel/visitor effects from regional events — could affect economic activity in Clovis if they proceed as planned.
