Emergency Operations Center (Fairgrounds): The board approved submission of a congressional direct‑spending grant request for remodeling two rooms at the county fairgrounds to serve as the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and training facility. County staff reported a total project budget of $281,273, with a county cost share of $70,318. The board approved seeking $185,955 in congressional directed spending; staff said the grant would be a 50/50 effort if awarded and that the county had received encouragement from congressional offices to reapply after an earlier unsuccessful attempt.
Community Animal Response Team (CART): Emergency management staff described establishing a volunteer CART trained to assist animals before, during and after disasters. The board approved a $5,000 grant application to the Lure Foundation to purchase vests and supplies; the program would operate with volunteers under county oversight and workers’ compensation when activated.
CSU Extension grants and programs: The board approved three CSU Extension submissions: a Waterwise Education Gardens grant for $1,725 to support programming at the public library, and a 2025 gardening‑class grant for $2,030. Commissioners praised Extension presentations provided during a prior workshop.
Electronic Recording reimbursement: The board approved a reimbursement grant application from the Electronic Recording Technology Board for $10,924.42 to replace computers and scanners used by the County Clerk & Recorder. The grant is reimbursement‑based and requires no county match.
All motions were moved, seconded and carried by unanimous voice votes. County staff will proceed with required grant paperwork and, if awarded, implement the projects per grant terms.
