Decatur staff outline three active code-enforcement cases at 301 S. Trinity, 905 E. Ward and 708 W. Main

City code enforcement staff told the Building Standards Commission they are working three current cases: 301 South Trinity, 905 East Ward and 708 West Main.

At 301 South Trinity staff said the owner has contacted the city and is making repairs; the owner requested an inspection to confirm progress. At 905 East Ward staff said work had begun on a remodel, leaving portions of the building in a dangerous, partially completed condition; staff said the front of the house has been boarded and that the owner was pursuing permitting to complete repairs. At 708 West Main staff said a case opened the prior week for an apartment building with holes in the roof and failing windows; staff described the apartments as in worse condition than an adjacent house that appears to be maintained.

Ricky Denny, code enforcement, briefed the commission on the status of each case and said staff intend to continue working with owners to secure permits and abate hazards before returning to the commission for formal action, if necessary. No formal motions or orders were recorded for these properties at the meeting; staff said one of the cases was newly opened and that additional public hearings could be scheduled depending on owner response.
