Staff also recommended realigning several right‑turn bypass lanes, upgrading curb ramps to meet ADA standards and closing a commercial driveway near the Table Mesa intersection to reduce conflicts with the Broadway multi‑use path.
Daniel Sheeter, principal transportation planner, said the corridor carries the most frequent transit service in the city, with buses every two to four minutes on some lines, and that southbound buses turning to Table Mesa experience notable delays. “Buses turning on to Table Mesa from Broadway are on average delayed 107 seconds at the intersection compared to 63 seconds for vehicles,” Sheeter said, citing staff analysis.
Wilcher and Sheeter also described a bus‑lane study to evaluate repurposing the rightmost curb lanes on Broadway between Table Mesa and Regent for bus use. The study is funded; implementing curbside bus lanes would require additional capital funding and inclusion in the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) regional transportation plan.
Two separate, grant‑funded signal projects — one at Broadway/Regent and another at Broadway/Baseline — will implement pedestrian‑focused phasing changes and signal pole realignment; the Regent signal work is slated for spring/summer 2025 with Baseline following in late 2025.
