Board to approve small interfund transfer for Community Wildfire Protection Plan; USDA pass‑through funding

Emergency management Director Daniel Dushan briefed the board on the county’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan and an associated interfund transfer of $15,000 from the emergency management general fund to the grant fund for local work on the plan.

Dushan said the plan is a roughly 10‑year, countywide risk‑assessment and project prioritization effort that brings together federal and state land managers, fire districts, county development services and private landowners. He described the plan as a planning and coordination tool that identifies high wildfire‑risk areas and potential mitigation projects rather than an automatic construction program. Funding for the identified projects would be carried out by the appropriate land management agency.

Funding: Staff said the grant originates with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is passed through State Fire to Cochise County; the request is for an interfund transfer to place local matching or administrative funds into the grant fund. The board asked questions about partner engagement, including inviting Bureau of Land Management participation for BLM lands within the county. No formal vote was recorded; staff said they would provide additional materials attached to the regular agenda item.
