Public commenters tell council state board denied Blair House boundary decrease

During public comment at the Waukesha Common Council meeting on March 4, resident Lisa Saab told the council that the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Review Board voted 8–4 on Feb. 21, 2025, not to approve additional documentation and a boundary decrease for the Senator William Blair House on the National Register of Historic Places.
Saab summarized a timeline she said began in July 2024, when city staff requested that the Waukesha Landmarks Commission waive a 60-day notice for the proposed boundary change. According to her comments, the Landmarks Commission declined that waiver and later asked that a new nomination be prepared by a historic preservation consultant, which was presented in December 2024. Saab said the Landmarks Commission then voted unanimously against the boundary decrease and drafted a letter of opposition. She said the state review board considered the nomination and boundary change and voted 8–4 not to decrease the boundary.
Saab said she brought the matter to the council to make sure the public is aware of the review board’s decision. Her comments were recorded during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no action on the item was taken by the council during the March 4 meeting.
