Board approves sole-source purchase of oxygen-generation system for EMS using state-directed grant

The Rutherford County Board of Commissioners approved a sole-source purchase of an oxygen-generation system for the EMS service, financed with state-directed grant money.

Paul (county procurement/finance staff) told the board the equipment is specialized and supplied documentation from the vendor and customer references. The project was included in the county’s state-directed grant scope, and procurement staff said competitive alternatives were not available in time to meet operational needs highlighted by recent storms.

The board voted to approve the sole-source purchase and accepted staff representations about financing and operational use. Commissioners said the system will help response and resilience during outages and that further grant work could fund a trailer to make the system mobile.
