Board authorizes assistant county manager to exercise county manager powers when manager is absent
Summary

County Attorney Michelle Ford asked the board on March 3 to adopt a resolution conferring to the assistant county manager the authorities that state statute allows when the county manager is absent or unavailable.
Ford read the proposed new board policy language (section 13.3) that would authorize the assistant county manager to exercise the county manager’s authorities as allowed by North Carolina General Statutes §153A-81. The board voted to adopt the resolution.
Why it matters: The resolution creates an interim delegation of managerial authorities to ensure continued county operations when the county manager is not present. The delegation references the statute that permits temporary exercise of managerial powers by a designated official.
Staff will update board policy records to reflect the new section and the delegation of authority.
