Elk River board authorizes Facilities Committee to study 'Setting 4' options including possible ALC relocation and SPED changes

The Elk River School District board on Aug. 11 authorized its Facilities Committee to study "Setting 4" options and return with recommendations, including conceptual cost estimates and potential impacts on special-education programming and the Alternative Learning Center (ALC).
Director Steinbrecher told the board the committee would begin with a high-level, "100,000-foot" conceptual plan that uses population projections (a 2018/2025 study referenced) to consider scenarios from reassigning elementary boundaries to new construction if growth warranted. The district previously formed a separate task force to study growth in the south; that task force is already under way.
The Facilities Committee's charge is to compare the committee's Setting 4 analysis with the South Growth task force recommendation so the board can evaluate large-ticket facility options together. Committee work, according to the motion, will include a review of how Setting 4 options would serve students with individualized education plans and what relocation of the ALC High School might involve.
Board members said the committee will return with more detailed options, including budgetary overviews; the committee may present a range of alternatives depending on low-to-moderate growth scenarios. The motion passed by voice vote.
Ending: The Facilities Committee will prepare a comparative report and cost overview to present to the full board so trustees can evaluate Setting 4 options alongside the South-growth recommendations.
