Council previews budget notices, planning items and hears Eagle Scout park-bookbox request

The council also received a planning commission update: the commission—s July 3 meeting was canceled for the holiday and rescheduled to July 10 to consider a site-plan review for an expansion of Quail Point Veterinary Clinic on South 2000 West.
During public comment an Eagle Scout requested permission to place two little free libraries (book boxes) in Veterans Park and Heritage Park as an Eagle Scout project. The scout described materials needed (4x4 posts and concrete) and asked about maintenance; staff told the scout to coordinate with the parks manager and confirmed the city could assist with locating sites. A council member offered to help secure donated paint and roofing materials.
Other staff updates: the fire department completed deputy chief interviews with five candidates and will follow up with recommendations; managers said the city is preparing for the audit and wrapping up the budget. Council members discussed Heritage Days security concerns from recent events and said the wrap-tax committee will report back after early August.
