Residents press for North Corridor progress as FDOT flags higher costs, design work

Residents of North Central Dade urged the Citizens Independent Transportation Trust on June 25 to accelerate the long‑planned North Corridor Metrorail extension to Miami Dade College North Campus and Hard Rock Stadium, while Florida Department of Transportation officials reported new design work and warned of higher costs and schedule uncertainty.

The appeals came during the meeting’s public‑comment reading. Dorothy Everett, who identified herself as a stakeholder from neighborhoods near the proposed North Corridor, wrote, “After waiting 48 years to build it, and 23 of investing my half penny surtax dollars to fund it, it's time to deliver. We want Metrorail to Miami Dade College North Campus, and to Hard Rock Stadium.” Vanessa Woodard Byers, president of the Twin Lakes NSG Homeowners Association, urged the trust to “expedite the North Corridor Metro Rail project” and to identify short‑term public‑works and trolley investments that could be funded now with surtax dollars while rail is built.
