Polk County adopts year-end budget modifications in Resolution 25-09

Polk County commissioners approved year-end modifications to the 2024–25 budget on June 18 by adopting Resolution 25-09.

County finance staff described the changes as primarily technical adjustments to appropriation authority. Finance staff said several departments need small increases—many in the $5,000 range—to avoid violating appropriation limits, and that the county clerk’s elections budget is expected to exceed its allocation by an estimated $10,000–$15,000 because of higher November election costs.

“This is our year end modifications to the 24–25 budget that we’re currently operating in,” a county finance official said, explaining the adjustments are routine and are done twice yearly with a final cleanup at year end. He recommended the board approve the resolution. A commissioner moved to approve the modification as presented; another commissioner seconded. The board voted in favor and the measure passed unanimously.

County staff said the approved changes will be incorporated into the current-year budget and that the board will adopt the 2025–26 budget at a later meeting. The approved resolution was presented as a routine step to ensure departments stay within legal appropriation authority.
