Comal County seeks comalcounty.gov domain and approves funds for new website hosting

Comal County Commissioners Court authorized the county IT director to submit an application to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) for the comalcounty.gov domain name, and later approved a line-item transfer to cover higher-than-anticipated costs for the county’s new website hosting and content-management project.
IT staff said they chose the proposed ComalCounty.gov name because it is concise and clearly identifies the county’s government function. "We would be submitting, for ComalCounty.gov as our new domain name," the IT presenter said. The presenter said the county would undergo CISA’s verification process before the domain would be granted.
The court also approved a transfer from contingency to a software subscription account to cover increased annual website-hosting and content-management costs in connection with the domain migration and a planned new website launch.
Separately, the court approved related budget adjustments in information technology to move funds between recurring-contract and software-subscription accounts to correct GL coding for security-service project products.
Commissioners approved the domain application authorization and the website-hosting line-item transfers by voice vote. Staff said the new domain is a cybersecurity best practice and will accompany a refreshed public-facing website.
