Comal County approves additional funding and contract amendment for West Connector study

Comal County Commissioners Court approved a line-item transfer and a second amendment to the engineering services agreement with Pape Dawson Consulting Engineers LLC to continue study work on the West Connector project between State Highway 46 and Farm-to-Market Road 2722.
County engineering staff told the court the county has already adopted an alignment for the portion between SH 46 and FM 1863 and is now studying the segment to FM 2722 to assess needs and possible alignments. The additional scope and amendment total roughly $131,000 and the presenter said the cost is in line with prior per-mile scope costs.
“As Robert previously mentioned... The cost for additional scope is a hundred and $31,000, about a hundred and $5,000 per mile,” the county engineer said in presenting the item.
Staff recommended approval; presenters said the amendment was within an allowable 20% contract increase for this contract type. Commissioners approved the line-item transfer and the contract amendment by voice vote.
The county indicated the consultant would complete the additional scope within approximately six weeks of authorization and return alignment recommendations if the needs assessment supports moving forward.
