Bonner County accepts ITD frontage-road deeds; commissioners note historic naming inconsistencies

After two years of maintaining frontage roads built by the Idaho Transportation Department, Bonner County accepted quitclaim deeds for Mineral Ridge Road and Vintage Road and discussed inconsistent road-name references in deed documents and whether the roadway meets county standards.
Bonner County accepted ownership of frontage-road rights-of-way that the Idaho Transportation Department built as part of the Granite North project and that the county has maintained since December 2022.
Road & Bridge staff recommended accepting deeds and signatures to complete the transfer for Mineral Ridge Road and Vintage Road. Staff said the constructed road sections generally exceed county standards for asphalt thickness and base materials, though certain shoulder widths negotiated during the ITD project were narrower than standard county preferences.
Commissioners raised concerns that documents and deeds sometimes used inconsistent road names — "Vintage Road" and "Vintage 95" appear in different places in the packet — and asked staff to ensure county records and GIS use the official name going forward. "All of our county documents going forward, the GIS layer, all of that will have the proper name. It already does," staff replied.
The board approved the quitclaim deeds by roll call vote and directed staff to record the deeds and reconcile road-name references in county records.
Public comment on the item included a suggestion to maintain a cross-reference log recording prior and new road names and the dates of changes so residents and staff can track historical name changes.
