Water Commission approves Dec. 16 minutes with correction; no comment on two development items

At its Jan. 27, 2025 meeting the Douglas County Water Commission voted to approve the minutes from the Dec. 16 meeting with a correction requested by Commissioner Harold Smethals. The correction clarifies Smethals’ earlier remarks about candidate rankings in a prior appointment discussion.

The motion to approve the minutes with Smethals’ change was moved and seconded (second recorded as Tricia Bernhardt); the commission approved the minutes by voice vote with no opposition or abstentions recorded.

Earlier in the meeting commissioners reviewed two items requested by county commissioners for the commission’s position: a Struby resurvey (Highlands Ranch) and a Sand Creek Road residential application. No commission members offered comments at the meeting, and the commission recorded a formal position of “no comment” and asked that commissioners or staff be contacted directly if members later wished to submit comments.

Why it matters: the minutes approval and the recorded “no comment” positions are the formal administrative record of the commission’s actions; the commission noted members remain free to share additional feedback with staff or the county commissioners.
