HCDA reports playground upgrades complete; capital projects director to resign

The Hawaiʻi Community Development Authority’s monthly executive director report noted completed park improvements and a forthcoming staff departure.
Executive Director Craig Nakamoto told the board that playground upgrades and a crosswalk with beacons are complete. Sod has been planted in the dog park and staff said punch-list items remain; the board was told the dog-park opening is likely in February and that the community preferred allowing the sod to establish before a formal opening and blessing.
Nakamoto also announced that Mark Hakoda, director of capital improvement programs, had submitted his resignation effective at the end of the year. Nakamoto said staff will begin filling the position and thanked Hakoda for his work on recent capital projects.
Board members congratulated staff on the playground improvements and noted community use of the facilities. No public testimony was offered on the monthly report.
