Hernando schools honor long‑serving staff and 28 students selected for All‑State ensembles

Superintendent Pinder and school principals presented service pins to employees with decades of service; the district noted employees with 30 or more years on the job and specifically named staff including Mary Anne Poholic (41 years), Vicki Pacinich (40 years), Nancy Krause (35 years), Kim Griffith (32 years), David Viola (31 years), Christine Wilkerson (30 years) and Jody Ware (30 years).
District fine arts staff and school band and choir directors recognized 28 students from eight schools who earned placements in statewide honor ensembles this year. David Plietix (chorus director at Powell Middle School) said the students had been selected by a combination of auditions and director nominations and that this year—s delegation included performers chosen at multiple statewide conferences.
Named student honorees at the meeting included Taryn Bone (clarinet, All‑State Honor Band, Central High), Brianna George (clarinet, All‑State Honor Band, Explorer K‑8), Carter Sanders (French horn, Powell Middle School), Gregory Davis (trumpet, 7‑Star Honor Band), Ariadne Leonard (All‑State Middle School Mixed Choir) and others. Directors from Springstead, Hernando, Powell and Winding Waters spoke briefly to introduce their students.
Why it matters: The recognitions highlight both staff retention and student achievement in the district—s music programs. District staff said the number of students representing Hernando in All‑State events doubled from 14 last year to 28 this year.
The board and superintendent invited the students and staff to take photographs onstage during the meeting.
