Wheat Ridge councilors review draft Prosperity Plan, signal consensus to move plan toward adoption

Consultants presented a nearly yearlong effort to update Wheat Ridge’s Prosperity Plan and councilmembers indicated consensus to move the draft forward for formal consideration in January.

The presentation to the Wheat Ridge City Council on the Prosperity Plan recap focused on four goal areas: revitalizing commercial corridors and redevelopment nodes; retaining and recruiting jobs, innovation and light manufacturing; improving attainability and quality of life; and refining the city’s delivery system for economic development. Brad Siegel of PUMA and Arlene Tanawake of Arland Land Economics led the presentation and described the plan’s geographic framework, tactics appendix and sequencing recommendations.

The plan’s authors said roughly half of the recommendations focus on corridors and redevelopment opportunities, distinguishing north–south regional corridors that generate sales tax from east–west corridors that are more neighborhood-serving.
