Historic-resources board approves two certificate templates for recognition program

The Salinas Historic Resources Board voted to adopt two certificate templates for its certificate-of-appreciation program, choosing template 5 as the default and template 7 for site-specific presentations.
Bianca Eresmendi, community outreach assistant, showed seven template options the board had been refining. Board members discussed design choices including use of a gold seal, inclusion of images of buildings (residential and commercial), color variants and an option to insert project-specific photographs.
Board member Munoz had asked for a gold seal and a version keyed to the honored property; Eresmendi presented options reflecting that feedback. Several board members expressed preferences: one member said template 5 “shows both a residence and a commercial building,” while others favored a version that allowed custom photographs of the honored property.
Board member Callender moved to approve templates 5 and 7, with template 7 used when a site-specific photo is supplied and template 5 used as the fallback. The motion was seconded by Jefferson Shin. A roll-call vote recorded unanimous support from the sitting commissioners and the motion passed.
The board directed staff to implement the templates and to accept submitted photographs for use with template 7. The board also discussed how the certificates would be issued even when board membership or staff changes over time; several members said maintaining a usable in-house template was important.
