Bond transportation program reports progress on major projects; program recognized by regional council

County bond transportation staff gave a program update on Jan. 14 detailing progress on the county’s multi-project bond-funded road program and highlighted recent milestones and schedule notes.

Ed Dendoor, Bond Transportation Program administrator, reviewed individual projects. Highlights included: - County Road 218 (Masters Pit to Pine Tree Lane): pond excavation and liner work; earlier holiday slowdown noted. - County Road 209 corridor: utility adjustments complete; CSX finished permanent crossing components; contractors placed storm pipe and prepared to remove the temporary railroad crossing detour after the next traffic shift. - Sand Ridge Road: ongoing placement of sidewalks, curbing, final layers and subdivision connections; project reported near completion of key work with high percent paid-out to contractor. - Cathedral Oak Parkway (Project 6B): continued cut/fill, bridge rebar and pedestrian railing work; project reported 98% of contract time used and 89% paid out, with staff and the contractor meeting to resolve schedule contention.

Dendoor said the county program has expended $104,900,000 of bond funds through the reporting date. He also reported the bond transportation program received a regional award from the Northeast Florida Regional Council for transportation initiative work.

Commissioners asked scheduling questions, including the fate of a temporary signal near County Road 315 B and the timing of some traffic shifts. Staff said they will monitor traffic counts and return with recommended timing and adjustments. No final policy decisions were taken; the briefing was informational, and staff will continue monthly project updates.
