The Saline County Board of Commissioners approved multiple actions at its Feb. 11 meeting, including proclamation of February 2025 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a hazardous materials grant application, a revision to the county administrator job description, and a series of appointments on the consent agenda.
The board approved the consent agenda by voice vote. The consent items included tax roll adjustments, accounts payable, payroll, meeting minutes, and township appointments: Elaine Waddell (Solomon Township trustee), Faye Woodson (Spring Creek Township trustee), Carolyn Bixby (Smoky View Township trustee) and Beth Watkins (Liberty Township clerk). The board also approved a letter of support for the Regional Community Wildfire Prevention Plan.
The board unanimously approved a proclamation designating February 2025 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month at the request of Jalen Alexander of the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas. Alexander said the group will host an information table at Salina Central High School during lunchtime next week and hold a trivia night to raise awareness.
Commissioners also approved a hazardous materials training grant application being submitted on behalf of the regional hazmat team housed by Salina Fire. Michelle Wise, emergency management director, said the $7,100 project would send four technicians to the International Hazardous Materials Conference and that the grant carries an 80/20 match. The city of Salina will provide the required 20% match as a soft match of salaries and benefits.
Separately, the board approved a revised county administrator job description. Human resources staff said the revision updated duties to reflect the evolving role and carried no direct budget impact.
All votes recorded at the meeting were approved by voice vote with no recorded dissent.
