Wheat Ridge council backs changes to Community Partners Grant Program after staff proposals

Wheat Ridge City staff presented proposed changes to the Community Partners Grant Program (CPGP) on Jan. 6, asking council for feedback and consensus on a two-part review process, a timeline shift to align awards with budget adoption, and new disclosure and eligibility rules for applicants.

The changes are intended to ease workload on the volunteer review committee and to align awards with council priorities. "The Community Partners Grant Program provides funding to nonprofit agencies and programs for activities that benefit Wheat Ridge," staff presenter Cole said, describing recent growth in applications and materials for reviewers.

Staff told council the number of applicants has increased (from 25 to 43, according to staff), application volumes and packet length have grown—exceeding 350 pages in 2025—and that presentations to the committee consumed more than 12 hours in 2024. To address that, staff recommended a two-part review that would treat requests up to $7,500 as a separate, faster review track with no required presentation unless the committee requests one. For larger requests the committee would retain the full presentation requirement.
