District develops positive behavior support manuals for all elementary schools and middle school; high-school version in progress

As part of its MTSS social-emotional plan, the district developed schoolwide positive behavior support manuals for each elementary school and the middle school; the high-school manual remains in development and is expected within the first trimester of the school year.
District staff and a Chester County Intermediate Unit consultant presented schoolwide positive behavior support manuals developed under the district's MTSS social-emotional-behavior (SEB) work.
Teresa Riccio, who served on assignment from the Chester County Intermediate Unit, told the board that building-level core teams updated or developed manuals that include schoolwide behavioral expectations, explicit lesson plans for teaching and reteaching expectations, implementation schedules, reinforcement systems and procedures for handling minor and major offenses. The manuals emphasize equity and consistency while allowing building-level autonomy.
Riccio said each elementary building and Kennett Middle School have completed their manuals; Kennett High School's manual is in development and the team expects to complete it within the first trimester of the school year, though the district emphasized a preference for presenting a quality document and suggested a phased rollout if needed.
Administration said the manuals will be living documents revisited annually and used to reduce disciplinary incidents, reinforce expectations and improve school climate. The board received the manuals as an informational item and did not take a formal vote on them at the meeting.
Board members thanked Riccio and school teams for the work and discussed timing and supports for implementation at the high school.
