County outlines paving, culvert work, riprap project and bridge schedule

Public works staff provided an update on road and bridge work, including paving schedules, culvert replacements and a riprap project to stabilize a ditch line where groundwater prevents vegetation establishment.

Staff said a contractor will begin a widening and overlay project in June and that bridge decking work is under way; the decking work on a county bridge was expected to be complete in June with the broader road work finishing by September. For a neighborhood ditch line where seed and erosion controls were ineffective, staff said they would place riprap over approximately 3,400 feet and asked adjacent property owners to maintain vegetation spraying.

Why it matters: the projects include safety and drainage improvements and will affect travel and property adjacent to work zones. Staff said mowing crews take about six weeks to cycle the county's maintenance routes and that crews are handling storm cleanup following recent weather.

What was not decided at the meeting: roadway construction schedules were described as contingent on contractor availability and ongoing coordination with MoDOT projects; no additional appropriations were announced.
