Board recognizes criminal deputy district attorneys’ bargaining group

The Nye County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted on Feb. 19 to recognize the Nye County Management Employees Association, Criminal Deputy District Attorneys (NCMEA-CDDA), as the exclusive collective bargaining representative for criminal deputy district attorneys employed by the Nye County District Attorney’s Office, and directed staff to begin negotiations.
The recognition followed submission of a petition by deputy district attorneys seeking representation under NRS 288.16. The board’s action applies only to criminal deputy district attorneys; civil deputy attorneys were not part of the petition and are not included in the recognition.
Commissioners did not debate the merits of collective bargaining at length during the item; the board moved to recognize the association and directed staff to open negotiations under state law. The board’s action sets the process in motion for county staff and the recognized representative to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement covering wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment for the criminal DDAs.
