Transportation Policy Committee appoints Martin Lucero as Lubbock MPO director

The Lubbock Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation Policy Committee voted unanimously Oct. 21 to appoint Martin Lucero as executive director of the MPO at an annual salary of $160,000 plus recruitment-posting benefits.

The appointment followed an executive session convened under Texas Government Code 551.074 to discuss the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline or dismissal of a public officer or employee. Committee members reconvened in open session and then took the vote on the appointment.

Commissioner Dolby moved to appoint Martin Lucero at the salary and benefit level described in the recruitment posting; Mayor Pro Tem Martinez Garcia seconded the motion. The committee chair called for the ayes; members responded and the motion passed unanimously.

The committee briefly welcomed Lucero after the vote. Lucero had already been presenting later items on the agenda as the MPO’s executive director and led subsequent agenda discussions about federal planning documents and funding allocations.

The meeting record shows that the committee opened and promptly recessed into executive session at the start of the meeting and then reconvened to act on the appointment. The vote and the compensation figure were announced on the record.
