Committee recommends appointments and sends several bills to Rules and Reference
Summary

Vice Chair Reynolds moved that gubernatorial appointments for Valerie Lehi (Ohio Civil Rights Commission) and Theodore Fraser and Jane Hanlon (Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission) be recommended to the Committee on Rules and Reference. The clerk conducted a roll call and the appointments were recommended to Rules and Reference with sufficient votes.
Senator Gavarone moved and the committee adopted Amendment 0947 to Senate Bill 61, which removed provisions relating to grand-jury reporting and testimony; the amendment was adopted without objection and Senator Gavarone moved to favorably report SB 61 to Rules and Reference. The roll call passed and SB 61 was favorably reported.
For Senate Bill 35, the committee adopted an amendment clarifying that a supported-decision-making plan must be entered into voluntarily by an adult with a developmental disability who is of sound mind. Opponent Carolyn Larman testified about concerns with removal of the word "plan" from evidentiary standards; Vice Chair Reynolds then moved to favorably report SB 35 to Rules and Reference. The roll call passed and SB 35 was favorably reported; the roll was left open until 11:30 a.m. per committee practice.
