Daniel Chavez, Fire Chief, told the council the city had approved a power stretcher and loading system in the 2025–26 budget but encountered a cost overrun. The item was included in that budget at $64,000 and, according to Chavez, the purchase exceeded that amount by roughly $3,000; staff asked that the overage be reconciled from one of the department’s donation accounts.
Chavez described the device as a medical device with an expected useful life of five to seven years and said the department tries to align device life with vehicle life to reduce overlapping replacements. He said the power stretcher and loading system is used to transport patients with the ambulances and that staff would answer any additional questions at the general agenda.
Council did not vote on the request at the work session. Staff said the matter is scheduled for the general agenda at the next council meeting so the council may consider reconciliation and any required budget adjustments.
