La Marque — The City Council approved an amendment Oct. 27 to the ongoing wastewater treatment plant rehabilitation contract to add an alternate item for wet-well cleaning at a cost of $100,000.
Public Works staff told council the wet well has accumulated roughly four feet of solids, rags and leftover guide rails and equipment that reduce pump capacity and increase the likelihood of backups and odors. The cleaning and removal work is part of the broader Headworks and chemical storage rehabilitation contract paid from the 2020 bond program, staff said.
“There's about four feet of solid at the bottom of the wet well. The inlet's at the bottom, so it's halfway covered,” the project manager said, adding that removal of the debris and legacy equipment will improve flow and reduce backup risk. The council approved the amendment; staff said funding is available in the bond project allocation.
Ending: Staff said the wet-well cleaning will be scheduled to minimize service disruptions and will be coordinated with the larger headworks rehabilitation work already under contract.
