Council committee hears Philadelphia Parking Authority support for local parking regulations

Bill 240873, an ordinance to establish parking regulations on portions of North Second Street, Champal Street, North Sixth Street and Fairhill Street, received brief testimony and no opposition during the Committee on Streets and Services public hearing on Oct. 16.

Lester Emerson, deputy parking manager for the Philadelphia Parking Authority, testified: "The Philadelphia Parking Authority has no objection to the ordinance previously read before council and recommends favorable consideration." He told the committee that once signs are installed the PPA will enforce the new regulations, including flyering blocks and overseeing boundaries, and that the specific boundaries are determined by council.

The ordinance was later included in a committee motion to report multiple bills favorably to the full council; committee members adopted that motion by voice vote and requested suspension of rules to permit first reading at the next council session.
