Steering committee approves $102,447 transfer to Greenwood Pool demolition

The Gardner City Community Building Block Grant steering committee voted Oct. 28 to transfer $102,447 from the 205213 Main Street demolition project to the Greenwood Pool demolition project. The motion passed after staff described the remaining scope and timeline for the Greenwood site.
Amy, a city project manager, told the committee the Main Street demolition has proceeded “well” and that, when she visited mid‑morning, “the only remaining piece of the entire facility was the front portion.” She said the additional $102,447 will allow crews to complete the current demolition phase, remove debris, loam and seed the yard and “put everything back as much as they can.” Amy estimated that the demolition and site finishing could be completed by mid‑ to late November.
The chair moved the transfer, the committee seconded the motion and members voted in favor. Staff noted that after the transfer approximately $94,000 would remain in the Main Street line item, and that the city will later consider reallocating any residual funds through the regular public hearing process.
City staff also said they will scale the contractor’s scope where appropriate — for example, reducing or deferring loam‑and‑seed if the pavilion construction will follow next spring — to avoid unnecessary spending of CDBG funds.
Next steps: staff will submit the transfer request to the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) for approval and proceed with the remaining demolition work under the contractor ABW.
