District administrator highlights awards, programming and construction progress

Dr. Kristen Mueller, district administrator for the School District of Holman, presented highlights from the 2024–25 school year at the district’s Oct. 27 annual meeting and budget hearing.
Mueller reported the district enrolled 3,791 students in 2024–25 and remained the 49th largest district in Wisconsin by enrollment. She said 3.5% of students are multilingual learners, 26.5% are economically disadvantaged and 14.7% receive special‑education services. "We continue to remain to be the 49th largest district out of 421 in the state of Wisconsin," Mueller said.
She highlighted academic and co‑curricular achievements: multiple elementary schools and the middle school received recognition from U.S. News & World Report; students qualified for state competitions in DECA and math; the district’s SkillsUSA and technology programs earned awards; and the athletics program produced numerous state appearances. Mueller named several staff recognitions: a teacher named Midwest Adaptive PE Teacher of the Year, a nutrition department national innovation award and other statewide honors.
On safety and student supports, Mueller said the district is expanding its focus beyond physical safety to include digital safety and social‑emotional learning. She reported 88.6% of students answered that they feel safe at school (just under the 90% target) and that the district is launching safety and employee well‑being efforts; workers’ compensation modifier was reported at 1.63 and is an area of focus.
Construction and facilities: Mueller reviewed the referendum‑funded construction timeline from 2022 and said the majority of construction is expected to conclude by the end of the calendar year, while some projects will continue into the next year. Viking Elementary received remodeled classrooms and a new kitchen and commons; Evergreen Elementary saw exterior layout changes, new kitchen and flashing crosswalk lights; middle school entrance improvements and new STEM labs at Prairie View and Sand Lake were also shown.
Community outreach: Mueller invited the public to an open house on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon to tour renovated facilities and participate in ribbon cuttings. She directed attendees to the district website and materials for the supplemental annual report.
The presentation preceded the budget hearing and provided context on enrollment and programmatic trends used in the budget discussion that followed.
