David Elmsen, an eighth grader at River Valley Charter School, said he was diagnosed at 11 and described how intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors once made schoolwork and interactions difficult. "To this day, I'm still not sure what I think or do these things I do, but now I'm in a lifelong journey. And for now, I'm thriving at River Valley," Elmsen said.
A trustee moved to adopt the resolution and another trustee seconded. After brief remarks thanking the student for speaking, the board voted "Aye" and the chair announced the resolution passed.
Trustees praised the student for speaking publicly about mental health and noted the value of awareness and reducing stigma.
