District honors bus drivers for safe service and recognizes Feeding San Diego partnership providing recurring food distributions

The Lakeside Union School District Board of Trustees on Monday recognized school bus drivers for their safety record and presented service certificates to drivers with multiple years of service.
Lorraine Schilling, a state‑certified transportation instructor who began with the district in August, described the training and certification process for California school bus drivers, including a minimum of initial training hours (classroom and behind‑the‑wheel), DOT physicals, drug testing, DMV endorsements (Class B, air brakes, passenger), fingerprinting and recurring in‑service requirements. "It's a nonstop commitment," Schilling said, describing annual training and multi‑year re‑certification steps.
District staff also recognized Feeding San Diego for its partnership with Lemoncrest and Lindo Park schools. Principal Price said the partnerships deliver recurring food distributions that families rely on; she said Lemoncrest meets the needs of over 150 households and serves more than 20,000 meals a year through the program, and Lindo Park has served more than 200 households with over 26,000 meals in a shorter timeframe. The district presented a plaque to Feeding San Diego and thanked the nonprofit for the collaboration.
Trustees and attendees thanked drivers and partners for their service and the school community noted how transportation and food security are integral to student access and attendance.
